GHK (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine) is a tripeptide naturally present in human plasma, saliva and urine, first isolated in 1973 by biochemist Dr. Loren Pickart — after whom this product is named. It binds copper(II) with high affinity to form the GHK-Cu complex studied throughout the tissue-remodelling literature.

Since its isolation in 1973, GHK-Cu has accumulated one of the broadest published records of any small peptide. Studies have examined its stimulation of collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis in fibroblasts, its role in dermal wound healing and skin remodelling models, and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions linked to its copper chemistry.

A comprehensive 2018 review in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, co-authored by the peptide's discoverer, consolidates gene-profiling data indicating that GHK modulates the expression of a large number of human genes associated with tissue regeneration and repair.
